Modesty: Pants vs. Skirts

So, this post was mean't to be about the proverbs 31:10 and so on woman/wife, but i figured I needed to do much more research on that whole chapter and I need to ask for understanding from God. Seeing as I'm not a wife yet.... It was kind of hard so I Just made this about modesty. 


Pants or skirts?

 First of all, I've worn skirts all my life and never understood the importance of it until I was fourteen. Ever Since I was a toddler my mother would always dress me in skirts and dresses all the time, and at the time I was too little to care. But not until I was in 4th grade did I start to notice that me and my sister dressed differently than the girls around us. While we wore dresses and skirts they wore jeans and shorts, and rarely dresses and skirts. 

We didn't really care (or i didn't because I don't know what my sister thought at the time ;D) not until some of the girls started asking us, "Why do you wear skirts everyday?" or "Who makes you dress like that?" But as children we were really surprised and immediately told them, "It's not me, it's my mom that makes me dress like this."

Back then I was little and without much knowledge about why life was the way it was. With all the teasing about my dress code, I wanted to change and dress Just like the girls around me, but I never could with my father's strict policy when it came to dressing lady like and modest. So I had to accept who I was for about 5 years until I started looking in depth about modesty and why it was important. I was fourteen at the time and I went straight to you- tube and typed "Modest clothes" and after sometime I happen to pass by a you-tuber called Hem of his garment ministries. And her first video earned my interest right away and I watched all of her videos in two days! That's how good they were, and very encouraging. And surprisingly I did some more research about modesty in Christs way and I came to love myself and accept who I was. But most importantly I grew a lot more in my walk with Christ Jesus.

I believe modesty starts from within and reflects on the outside. Without believing in it, then what's the use of doing it?


  • God wants us young ladies to dress modestly, He might not tell us how long the hem line should be or how short a skirt should be, but He says this in His divine word: I also want the women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, adorning themselves, not with elaborate hairstyles or gold or pearls or expensive clothes. - 1 Timothy 2:9 



  • It helps our brothers in Christ--men already have a burden in them with today's worldly ladies that care little about modesty or if you want to get in depth, God. But there's still hope for our brothers in Christ. We would help them greatly by dressing modestly. They won't have to look the other way or have a hard time talking to us if we dressed modestly and acted modestly towards them too. Because again, modesty starts from within.



  •  It shows that we care to save ourselves for our future husbands, (If God wills us to get married someday.) and that we want to honor them by protecting our bodies for only them in God's perfect timing.  



  • It's comfortable, beautiful, and brings out our femininity!



  • It makes people question about why you dress that way, and that's a perfect opportunity to share Jesus and His wondrous love to them!! You see, modesty can help with sharing the gospel with an unbeliever. How amazing is that?

If charity is there, it will become visible outwardly, but if you have no charitable feeling, you can still obey the command. Put it on as simple and consciously as you put on a coat. And as for pants.... Why in the world do I not like them? you ask...

Simple: I was raised to dress in skirts and dresses and I Just feel plain weird wearing them!

No, but really that would be a definite answer I would give to an outsider wondering why I don't wear pants. But if you want a long answer.. then I will give it to ya!

I feel as though I serve God better by not wearing pants and I Just feel super modest in skirts and dresses. And it's always nice to be different ( in a good way though!) and not follow the crowd that's making its way to the wide path. I want to be different in God and not man. So I accepted that God was calling me to be a modest young lady and it's been this way ever since I was fourteen. And theirs not much I can say about pants. :( 


The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman's garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the LORD thy God. -Deuteronomy 22:5

Last thought...
As christian girls and women we should dress ourselves in neat and modest apparel. One that gives off a gentle and kind vibe. The way we dress reveals how we carry ourselves as women. And we should also dress to please our heavenly father.
